Dictionary Project

Each year, shortly after school starts, La Grande Rotarian purchase and deliver dictionaries to every elementary school in Union County, Oregon. The Rotarians give a short presentation discussing dictionaries and the importance of reading.

Rotarian Dale Mammen makes a presentation before 3rd graders.
The goal of the dictionary project is to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers and resourceful learners by providing them with their own personal dictionary.  The dictionaries are gifts to each student to use at school and at home for years to come.  Third grade is the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn.
Looking for that first word…”rotary.”
