5th Annual Daddy Daughter Dance

Two wonderful nights for dads and daughters at La Grande Rotary’s 5th Annual Daddy Daughter Dance

The chocolate fountain flowed and the snacks were devoured, the faces were painted, the photos were snapped, but most important of all, the music played dads danced with their daughters.  The 2020 version of the DDD featured a Hawaiian theme so naturally all participants received flowered leis. Many dads wore Hawaiian garb and there were even a few with beach sandals! Everyone had plenty to snack on including Dominos Pizza, cheese and chips, vegetables, and sugary snacks. The hit was the chocolate fountain with every sort of munchie that could be dipped and devoured. There was food aplenty for all.  A professional photographer took special prints and a selfie corner allowed for extemporaneous shots. The game room featured flamingo toss and fabulous prizes and four face painters created all sorts of interesting designs on young faces and even a dad or two!  From 6 PM to 9 PM the DJ blared-out popular tunes. So popular that when the first few bars came out of the speakers there was a chorus of cheering from the young ladies who recognized their favs. The dance floor was jammed with little women having the time of their lives.

All of this had two basic purposes, one, to provide a family event where dads and daughters could spend precious and quality time together. One quote heard at the end of an evening was from a little girl who said, “This was the best day of my life!” Second, the proceeds from ticket sales and sponsorships help support the programs the La Grande Rotary funds during the year including the Drug Free Youth Program at La Grande Middle School, the support for 8 young women to attend high school in the poor section of El Congo in El Salvador, high school scholarships, international exchanges, and literacy projects.
